Lucerne, Switzerland

September 4th, 2012

Lucerne, Switzerland

Switzerland has been such a great escape into nature for us on this trip!  Travelling from Interlaken to Lucerne we, by chance, hopped onto a scenic train route over the mountains!

If one picture could describe the way we felt...this picture would be it. So imaginative and inspirational!

We passed hamlet after hamlet of picturesque settings. Any one of which we could have pitched a tent and just taken it all in!

Made it to Lucerne and ready to explore!

The main covered wooden bridge that Lucerne is known for! It was once part of the cities defence system.

We don't look touristy do we?  :D

Such detailed frescos on the exterior of the buildings! The change in buildings, country to country is often very subtle, and because we have become saturated in the culture it takes us to look back on images to remember the great diversity we are being exposed to.

So we decided that we have been using all different types of transportation on this trip, including, plane, train, tram, bus, subway, gondola, and mostly our feet...so today we thought that we would do a boat tour!

Taking a boat tour on Lake Lucerne.  The lake has such clear blue water, as most of the waterways in Switzerland, and we were told on the tour that the water is actually clean enough that you can drink it right out of the lake!

After our boat tour we checked into our hostel (not nearly as nice as the one in Interlaken, but at least it is only one night!) we decided that we would bus out to explore the School of Architecture in Lucerne.

When we arrived at the School of Architecture the lawn was being mowed by this little guy! He roamed around the lawn like those iRobot vacuum cleaners!

Architektur Luzern

We were able to look around the hallways and explore some of their material display areas.  It looked like school was just beginning in this area and the school was slowly getting back into gears for a new year.  We came across all of these architecture books that were FREE! So we took a whole bunch...but had to mail them back to Canada already so that we did not have to lug around the extra 5kg in our packs!

Our final tourist spot in Lucerne was the Lion Monument.  Carved into the stone in the mountain, this lion lays with a shield and a spear in his side.  Saddest Lion Alive!
