LIFE ABROAD!: Vianden Luxembourg

Sunday August 5th

We spent most of the day traveling from Brussels to Luxembourg. We went to Luxembourg for an escape before hitting the big city of Paris! We had only ever heard of Luxembourg from the travel book and it looked like a great place to check out. We were right…we found the place in Europe that the Europeans vacation, which is always a good sign! We did not notice any American or Canadian tourists there.

In Vienden, Luxembourg the main attraction is the Vienden Castle and its Medieval feel. Also, its lush forest in a cute valley allowed us to hike and explore the area a bit.

So by this time in the trip we decided that we needed a HOT meal! We had not had one since London…so we were getting tired of our cold meals, which mostly consisted of baguette, cheese and meat. Although always reasonably priced, we were craving a cooked meal! So this was our first one:

Tortellini with ham and vegetables, along with a salad and wine! The portions at this restaurant were so big that we could share! We thought Europeans served small portions, but not here! It was so delicious we went back again the next night!

At dinner we met a really nice couple from the Netherlands. They spoke pretty good English and we were able to discuss topics from the Olympics, architecture/construction, politics, the places we visited in the Netherlands and various European culture. It was great to have conversation about the culture from an European point of view.

Monday August 6th

Today was our touring day in Vianden. We started by hiking up to the castle!
